The 17th annual IACE Summer Camp program will be held in Shizuoka Prefecture, the home of Mt. Fuji! Participants will have the opportunity to attend local schools while staying with a host family. Here, you can immerse yourself in Japanese culture through nature, school, and everyday life, with Japan’s iconic Mt. Fuji visible in the distance. IACE Travel will take care of all aspects of the program, including educational excursions to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima. This program is ideal for any teenager eager to explore Japan. SUMMER CAMP DATES:

*The experiences are targeted at high-school students, but junior-high-school students are able to participate as well.

STARTING & ENDING LOCATIONS

Day 0: 

Depart from the U.S. Please make your own way to Haneda Airport.

Day 1:  Tokyo                              

Arrival at Haneda Airport.  A representative of IACE Travel will greet you at the arrivals lobby and assist you with transferring to your hotel.

Day 2:  Tokyo                              

Welcome to Tokyo, a city where ancient temples coexist with towering skyscrapers, and tranquil gardens are just steps away from bustling city streets. As a leading destination for travelers from around the world, Tokyo offers an array of unforgettable sightseeing experiences. To kick off our journey, we'll go sightseeing at some of Tokyo's must-see spots.

 

Day 3: Shizuoka

Enjoy a ride on the bullet train (shinkansen) to Shizuoka, the majestic home of Mt. Fuji. Located roughly 1 hour from Tokyo, Shizuoka is a leading tea producer in Japan, with approximately 40% of Japanese green tea being grown there. Surrounded by the awe-inspiring views of Mt. Fuji, immerse yourself in the charm of local Japanese everyday life, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. 

 

Day 4: Shizuoka (Homestay)

First day of school.

Today, you will meet your host family!

 

Day 5: Shizuoka (Homestay)

Second day of school. 

Explore the city of Shizuoka after school.

 

Day 6: Shizuoka (Homestay)

Third day of school. 

 

Day 7: Shizuoka (Homestay)

Enjoy a break from school to visit the Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center in Shizuoka to learn about Japan's most famous mountain. With your newfound knowledge of Mt. Fuji in tow, refresh your body and mind by hiking up to Mt. Fuji's 5th Station.

 

Day 8: Shizuoka (Homestay)

Fourth day of school. 

Visit a green tea farm and delve into the intricate process of green tea cultivation. Today, you will learn about the rich heritage of Japanese tea-making and the process that turns tea leaves into the perfect brew.

 

Day 9: Kyoto

Enjoy your final day in Shizuoka alongside your host family before embarking on a journey to Japan's ancient capital, Kyoto, aboard the bullet train (shinkansen).

 

Day 10: Kyoto                           

With 117 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, over 1,600 Buddhist temples, and more than 400 Shinto shrines, Kyoto is the perfect place to immerse oneself in the rich culture and history of Japan. Today, we'll have the chance to explore a selection of these important cultural landmarks.

 

Day 11: Kyoto

Today, we will take a day trip to Hiroshima via the bullet train (shinkansen). After visiting picturesque Miyajima Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we will take a scenic river boat ride to Hiroshima's somber and iconic Peace Memorial Museum. As we walk along the city's tree-lined avenues, we will work up an appetite to get ready for some Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki for dinner!

 

Day 12: Kyoto

Osaka is referred to as a food lover’s paradise, with locals affectionately using the term "kuidaore," meaning “eat until you drop,” to encapsulate Osaka’s vibrant food culture. As we take a stroll along the canal-lined streets of Dotonbori today, you can see countless neon signs on display, including the iconic Glico Running Man.

 

Day 13:

Today is the final day of the summer camp. We will take the bullet train (shinkansen) back to Tokyo, and the camp will disband after saying "sayonara" to Japan and each other at Haneda Airport.
