The 17th annual IACE Summer Camp program will be held in Shizuoka Prefecture, the home of Mt. Fuji! Participants will have the opportunity to attend local schools while staying with a host family. Here, you can immerse yourself in Japanese culture through nature, school, and everyday life, with Japan’s iconic Mt. Fuji visible in the distance. IACE Travel will take care of all aspects of the program, including educational excursions to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima. This program is ideal for any teenager eager to explore Japan. *The experiences are targeted at high-school students, but junior-high-school students are able to participate as well.

Departure from the United States.

Day 1 : Saturday, June 28

Arrival at Haneda Airport

A representative of IACE will greet you at the arrivals lobby and assist you with transferring to your hotel. 

 

Day 2 : Sunday, June 29

1-Day Tokyo Tour

Welcome to Tokyo, a city where ancient temples coexist with towering skyscrapers, and tranquil gardens are just steps away from bustling city streets. As a leading destination for travelers from around the world, Tokyo offers an array of unforgettable sightseeing experiences. To kick off our journey, we'll go sightseeing at some of Tokyo's must-see spots.

 

Day 3 : Monday, June 30

Travel to Shizuoka

Enjoy a ride on the bullet train (shinkansen) to Shizuoka prefecture, the majestic home of Mt. Fuji. Located roughly 1 hour from Tokyo, Shizuoka is a leading tea producer in Japan, with approximately 40% of Japanese green tea being grown there. This afternoon, we will visit a green tea farm and delve into the intricate process of green tea cultivation. You will learn about the rich heritage of Japanese tea-making and the process that turns tea leaves into the perfect brew. Surrounded by the awe-inspiring views of Mt. Fuji, immerse yourself in the charm of local Japanese everyday life, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

 

Day 4 :  Tuesday, July 1

First day of school / Homestay

In the morning, we will go to a local high school and meet your friends and host family ! We will spend most of the day at the school attending classes mostly conducted in Japanese.

 

Day 5 : Wednesday, July 2

School Day / Homestay

Full day at school. Make some new friends!

 

Day 6 : Thursday, July 3 

Mt. Fuji Short Hike / Homestay

Enjoy a break from school to visit Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center in Shizuoka to learn about Japan's most famous mountain. With your newfound knowledge of Mt. Fuji in tow, refresh your body and mind by hiking a short course at the 5th station.

 

Day 7 : Friday, July 4

School Day / Homestay

Full day at school.

 

Day 8 : Saturday, July 5

Weekend with your host family  / Homestay

Spend the weekend with your host family before moving on to our next destination the next morning.

 

Day 9 : Sunday, July 6

Travel to Kyoto

Say good-bye to your host family and Mt. Fuji in the morning. We will continue our journey to Japan’s ancient capital, Kyoto, aboard the bullet train (shinkansen). 

 

Day 10 : Monday, July 7

1-Day Kyoto Tour

With 117 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, over 1,600 Buddhist temples, and more than 400 Shinto shrines, Kyoto is the perfect place to immerse oneself in the rich culture and history of Japan. Today, we'll have the chance to explore a selection of these important cultural landmarks.

 

Day 11 : Tuesday, July 8

1-Day Excursion to Hiroshima

Today, we will take a day trip to Hiroshima via the bullet train (shinkansen). After visiting picturesque Miyajima Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we will take a scenic river boat ride to Hiroshima's somber and iconic Peace Memorial Museum. As we walk along the city's tree-lined avenues, we will work up an appetite to get ready for some Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki for dinner!

 

Day 12 : Wednesday, July 9

The last day of Summer Camp. Return to the United States.

Today is the final day of the summer camp. We will take the bullet train (shinkansen) back to Tokyo, and the camp will disband after saying "sayonara" to Japan and each other at Haneda Airport.

・Experienced IACE representative (staff) will lead and accompany the students throughout the entire summer camp from start to finish.

・Accommodations, homestay as shown in the itinerary

・Meals (11 breakfasts, 11 lunches, 11 dinners)

・Transportation (all trains, buses, and other transportation included in the itinerary)

・All planned activities and entrance fees

・Travel Insurance to cover emergency medical expenses up to $10,000.

・Food and beverage expenses not included in the itinerary, such as lunch at the school cafeteria

・Cell phone/Wi-Fi rental/SIM Card

・Additional services and options not included in the tour at the facilities visited

・Other personal expenses

・Upgrading your travel insurance to include "Trip Cancellation"
